TRUE BLUE

Turquoise – the dainty, aqua-hued, semi-precious stone – is not just ornamentally beautiful but has powerful, energising properties. I love this crystal and here’s why I adore it so.

As far as I can recall, the first ever piece of jewellery that I fell in love with was a set of turquoise earrings and necklace that my mother owns. I must have been around eight or nine, when for an event she wore that set paired with beautiful aqua-hued Banarasi saree – she looked exquisite. I was at an age when everything Ma did seemed perfect and that vision of hers stuck in my mind like a picture of perfection forever.  With time my love for precious and semi-precious stones grew stronger. The rich hues and the way light plays through them or on them mesmerises and intrigues me. Each stone is like a narrative for me. Over the years I have built my own little collection of these jewels but the pieces that attract me the most till date are the one set with turquoise.

I have come to realise, that perhaps it is not just a lame fancy to be attracted to that stone. There is indeed a deeper meaning to it.  The azure-hued crystal is known for its healing properties and ensures overall well-being. It resonates with the throat chakra, enhancing communication skills and lets you express yourself better. Since, I work as a writer, content creator and healer requires very clear communication, I guess it is but natural for me to be drawn to this stone.

So how can you benefit from this stone? If you have a friend who is suffering from a chronic cough and cold, try gifting the person a turquoise stone – bracelet, pendant, ring, just the stone or even Jhelum Loves Express Throat Chakra oil. Many a times when you are unable to express yourself, that discomfort manifests as throat problems. Working on the throat chakra through yoga, crystals and oils helps. It is believed that its healing powers increase when the stone is given as a gift.

Another uniqueness of this crystal that attracts me is the fact that it is a stone of protection and is physically strong and opaque, however, when you wear it, is cool and soothing. I often think of it as crystallised water – strong yet soft. There’s something very feminine about the stone. Its shade and the creamy veins running through it, gives it an appearance of movement. I have tried wearing in various combinations. It pairs well with gold in terms of metals. If you want to match it with other crystals try, cornelian and rose quartz. Pearl is another choice. For clothes choose anything that is flowing and in the shades of cream, pink and aqua-blue.
