TRUE COLOURS

What would be life without colours? They decode personalities, amplify ambience, and reproduce emotions and much more.

Cultural symbolism is deeply rooted and represented through the lens of the palette. Hues dictate no-fuss sex detection. In art they are therapeutic, in photography they bring nostalgia and in life they are transformative. Brighter or pastel whatever is your poison, it tacitly professes the personality.

We all have our favourite shade. The glutted wardrobe is abundant with similar shades. It stalks you even when you have given yourself permission to just fleetingly glance at a window display. Turquoise Ocean, Strawberry Passion, Bomb Brick, Blanched Almond, any of these can make you weak in your knees. Then there are days when you want to try something different, out of monotony or public demand. Pop red lipstick for a change since Red-is-in.

Colour is not just colour. It has its own rhythm and a unique wavelength. This is a magnet to the vibrations of our thoughts and emotions. That’s why we habitually and spontaneously pick up our favourite shade. If red is what livens you up then appreciate that it has one of the longest wavelengths. Correspondingly it has a property of grabbing attention even if it’s not too close hence the red colour in the traffic signal can be seen from a distance. Green, on the other hand is a shade that stands for balance being in the centre of the colour spectrum ‘VIBGYOR’. Nature symbolises this shade. All things healthy, non-sinful and in the middle of extremes are green.  For sunnier laced emotions yellow is key.

‘In the Pink of health’, ‘Green with envy’, ‘Golden opportunity’, ‘Out of the blue’, ‘To be off-colour’ and many such phrases have painted our vocabulary since kindergarten. There’s no coincidence that each colour exudes a unique positive and negative emotion. If red ignites courage and passion, it is also the colour of anger. Blue is the colour of the mind; calming and intellectual but can also give us the blues.

If we go by gut then there’s no arguing that the quintessential black dress is world’s favourite weapon of mass destruction.Black is all absorbing. It soaks all colours and vibrations. For this reason, the most loved black dress blends in effortlessly, anytime anywhere. However, the scarlet red lipstick and nail paint vocalise acknowledgement.

Healing comes habitually to colours. They are embedded with the therapeutic code. Pranic healers around the world successfully use colours in their energy healing protocol. Colour therapists believe in using light in the form of colours as complementary healing. In many cultures crystals, gems and stones are selected on the basis of colour for a particular healing purpose.

Recent times have seen celebration of boundless shades on nails, home walls, clothes. Some electric, some extravagant, tell tale of happier and freer minds. Rose quartz and Serenity are amongst this year’s top ten colours, according to Pantone. Balancing and calming, these colours bring in order and peace.

Paint your life’s canvas with ampleness.
