GAIN IN THE RAIN

We’re in the middle of the monsoons and as we enjoy the showers don’t forget to protect your skin from the effects of this sultry season.

You love them, you hate them but you can’t ignore them. The monsoon is truly magical. However, as much as we hate to burst that monsoon bubble, we cannot ignore the fact that a constant downpour or even a niggling drizzle can wreck havoc on many an everyday activity, including your skin and hair care. Just to make your job a little easier, here are some quick fix beauty tips to make your skin less daunting during the season.

Moisturising: There is a common belief that monsoon skin problems are due to sweating. While this does cause problems, fluctuating humidity is also likely to cause patchy dryness on the skin. In addition to this, the UV rays penetrate through cloud covers and continue inflicting damage on the unprotected skin. It is therefore important to use moisturising lotion with SPF properties even in the monsoon. Using a lightweight lotion based moisturiser helps skin retain its natural moisture and nourishes it from deep within.

Oil Control: Oil or sebum secreted from the skin due to high humidity can clog the pores causing breakouts and leaving behind scars. So ensure that you wash your face twice a day with an oil-free face wash. Also, using a mild body wash daily will keep your skin supple and beautiful. Also, scrub your face at least once a week to open clogged pores. It’s always advisable to wash your face with lukewarm water as it dissolves oil better.

Sun Protection: Summer is over but don’t put your sunscreen away just yet. The sun might not be shining as bright, but the harmful UVA rays can still penetrate through the clouds and cause your skin to tan and blemishes to appear. Use a sunscreen every day irrespective of whether it’s sunny or not. During the monsoons, it’s best to switch to a waterproof sunscreen.

Use a Body Mask: After exfoliating, use a body mask to give your skin that much-needed glow in the gloomy monsoons. Mash a ripe banana, add one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of lemon juice in it and mix. Apply it on your entire body and wash it off after 10 minutes. Do it thrice a week for more supple skin.

Don’t Forget those Kissing Machines: While looking for lip care tips for this monsoon; this tip will help get you those natural pink lips. Like your body, your lips need a massage too. Take butter, jojoba cream, olive oil, etc., and massage it gently. This will improve blood circulation and give you naturally healthy lips.

Keep Yourself Dry: Fungal and bacterial infections are common during rainy season. Moist and damp skin leads to these infections. Also, one can get rashes and ringworm and even skin gets discoloured. So don’t stay in wet clothes for too long. If you’ve gotten caught in the rain, have a bath with lukewarm water and add a liquid antiseptic to it to kill all chances of infection. Wear breathable cotton fabrics to allow your skin to breathe.

Happy Feet: Your feet suffer the most during the monsoons, so they need a little extra TLC. Add a tablespoon of coarse salt and half a cup of lemon juice to about one-fourth bucket of warm water and dip your feet in it. You will feel more relaxed and rejuvenated.

Enjoy the magic of the monsoon, and with a little care, you’ll sail through all the sticky problems of this humid season and have stunning skin along the way.
