LETS PUCKER UP!
While you can’t develop Kylie Jenner lips overnight, follow these simple tips and tricks to make your lips look fuller and oh-so-gorgeous!
Sure, lip liners were once the 90’s favourite kid but thanks to the Kardashian clan, this season is all about faking big, natural-looking lips without any of the harsh lines. That’s right, we’re talking about lip contouring. But this technique isn’t just a matter of colouring outside the lines. Here are five ways to boost the size and shape of your lips giving you a red hot pout.
Moisturise: Use a non-greasy lip balm to add moisture back into your lips after exfoliating them. Using a slick balm instead of a lip gloss will keep your lips healthy and hydrated, without going overboard.
We recommend: Yves Rocher Nourishing Lip Balm, L’Occitane Ultra Rich Lip Balm, Kiehl’s Lip Balm SPF 15.
Create the outline: After moisturising your lips, create the shape of the lips using a dark colour pencil. You could use a dark chocolate shade to give the illusion of depth. Lip contour is about making small lips bigger or bigger lips look smaller. Both way we need to erase the natural lip line using concealer. To make them look fuller apply concealer to hide your natural line and recreate new lip line with pencil of shade similar to your tone, just outside of natural lips.
To make the lips look smaller, contouring is done using concealer, to diffuse the natural line and drawing a new line just inside of the natural shape. Fill in muted and matte colours to make it look smaller.
We recommend: M.A.C Lip Pencil in Brick, L’Oreal Paris Contour Parfait, Chambor Velvette Touch Lip Liner Pencil.
Fill in: Use a brick red shade to fill in the lips. Do not forget the corners of the mouth. Also, use short vertical strokes with a lip brush to colour in. Pro tip is to highlight the center of the lips with lighter tone, which will give an illusion of fuller lips.
We recommend: Lakme 9 to 5 Lip Colour in Cherry Chic, M.A.C Matte Lipstick in Diva, Chanel Aqua Crayon Lip Colour Stick in Cinnamon.
Blend: Using the brightest red colour, blend the colours starting from the center of the mouth. Be careful not to go too close to the outline of lips, otherwise you would only erase the depth you created.
We recommend: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colour SPF 12 in Old Hollywood, Chambor Powder Matte Lipstick in Rubis Rouge.
Highlight: Using a brush or your fingertip, press a cream based highlighter on the center of your bottom lip. This adds fullness and draws the eye to the center of your mouth, making your lips look more lush.
We recommend: Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder, Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator, The Body Shop Radiant Illuminator.
