ART OF BLENDING

Blending of essential oils is not just a fun thing to do but it is also a work of art and precision.

Here are steps to get you inspired enough to create your own signature scent.

Your favorite scent is your personal mood enhancer and manager. There are essential oils and scents to augment each and every aspect of your daily life. Some scents to relieve stress, anger, depression and anxiety, while there are others that infuse your life with romance and sensual love. Similarly, there are fragrances that uplift your senses increase your energy and efficiency. Chamomile relieves stress, rose enhances your mood for romance, lavender gives you the confidence to face your daily life with zest and vigour, orange and lemon alleviates and perks you up.

It is important to search from the range of essential oils and their fragrances that fit you or your persona. If one fragrance is therapeutic to an individual, it is not essential that it will suit and be beneficial to another. The specific oil blend will represent your individual fragrant personality. Take some time out to reflect and retrospect and jot these down in a diary on the kind of personality type you are, the values, convictions, strong points, weaknesses and tendencies that you have within you. You must also retain the names of these essential oils that you instantly connected with and note it down in your diary.

TRIAL AND ERROR

Take a cotton wool for each of the essential oils which you liked or connected with and separately throw in a few drops of those oils on one end of the cotton wool and label all of them accordingly, to avoid confusion. Inhale each cotton wool: if some feel right to you, keep them and discard the rest. Then hold two or three cotton wool under your nose and wave them together, while inhaling. Do you feel that the blend is harmoniously pleasant? If not, then carry on experimenting till you finally hit upon the scent that is just perfect for you.

Start with experimenting with five essential oils to create the blend that fits your personality, to avoid complication. Gradually move on to blending and working with more essential oils aiming at around 8 or 10 oils.

STIR IT UP

You will need:

A 10 ml bottle (2tsp) rollette/any similar capacity bottle with a small mouth bottle with a roller ball.

Another 10 ml (2tsp) sweet almond or jojoba oil.

Essential oils of your choosing (around 50 drops).

How to go about mixing:

Fill ½ of the bottle with sweet almond or jojoba oils; pour in your chosen essential oil.

Then shake well, top up the bottle with the remaining oil and shake well again.

10 drops of sandalwood, 10 drops of lemon, 10 drops of orange, 5 drops of verbena, 3 drops of lavender and patchouli.
