ALL ABOUT DARK CIRCLES

Struggling with dark circles that refuse to go? Here’s all that you need to know as to what causes these shadows and how to deal with them.

Nowadays many of us suffer from dark circles. Statements and questions like “You look so tired”, “Are you feeling sick?”, “Didn’t get enough sleep last night?” are often heard when you have those dark shadows around your eyes. The eyes are of the most noticeable feature of our body and have a huge impact on the appearance. Therefore, it is important to take good care of it.

CAUSES

The skin around the eyes is extremely thin and sensitive making it prone to premature ageing and pigmentation. The first step in dealing with dark circles is to know its causes. An obvious answer to this would be lack of sleep. While sleep deprivation is a major cause of having dark, tired and dull eyes, it is not the only cause. Excessive alcohol, smoking and use of drugs harm and weaken the skin and causing wrinkles and dark under eye patches.

It can be surprising to know that oversleeping can also make your peepers look dull and tired. Sleeping those extra hours won’t necessarily make you look fresh. In some families, dark circles are hereditary. In such cases, dark circles can be seen at a very young age.

Wearing too much makeup can also have an impact on our eyes. While makeup can help conceal the under-eye patches and puffiness, excessive makeup or sleeping without removing the makeup can be troublesome for the skin and make your eyes baggy.

Health problems such as thyroid, eczema, kidney problems and heavy medication can also lead to dark and puffy eyes. Ageing, stress, crying, and an unhealthy and imbalanced diet are also some of the causes for dark circles.

CURE

Along with home remedies and natural treatments, topical treatments are quicker in dealing with dark circles. Creams that lighten the skin under the eyes and reduce the blemishes making it appear brighter and healthier. Some of the popular ones are Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Set, Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate, Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, Auriga Cernor Dark Circles Dual Action Kit.

Using an Eye mask is an effective way to help fight dark circles. Applying an appropriate eye mask can relax the eye nerves and cause a soothing sensation for the sensitive skin around the eyes which leads to a reduction in blemishes and lightens the skin. Some people may also opt for serum infusion therapies and laser therapies. These therapies decrease the pigmentation under the eyes causing the skin to become light and healthy.
