AVOCADO: THE FRUIT YOU NEED TO EAT TODAY

Avocados are tropical fruits with high nutritional value, packed with proteins and fat-soluble vitamins for your body.

Living in a country like India, I have never come across many people craving for avocados. This is probably because the fruit is not very well known. However, what we must know is that this pear-shaped fruit is what every person needs to keep the body healthy.

Benefits of Avocado:

Exfoliation: A lotion-like paste of avocado, honey and milk can be used as an excellent facial cleanser. A mixture of mashed avocados, ground oats and sugar is the perfect hand scrub to get soft and delicate fingers.

Sunscreen: Rich in anti-oxidants, its oil serves as a calming ointment for sun burnt skin. It also acts as a natural sunscreen as it protects our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Your stay-at-home hair treatment: A deep massage using the fruit oil can help treat damaged and frizzy hair. Make sure not to waste the seed as it too can be powdered and applied as a natural dandruff treatment.

Good for the heart: Avocados are known to reduce cholesterol levels significantly and studies have proved that people who eat them tend to be healthier than those who don’t.

Rich in fibre: These green pieces of goodness are loaded with fibre that is extremely essential for your body. Fibre helps in lowering blood sugar levels, losing weight and is good for digestion.

In your diet:

Chickpeas are legumes that are high in fibre and protein which when eaten with avocados are the perfect meal to get you going. Start your mornings with one such sandwich:

Smashed Chickpea and Avocado Salad Sandwich:

– Mash 425g boiled chickpeas and 1 large ripe avocado into a large bowl. Add ¼ cup chopped coriander, 2 tbsp green onions, lime juice, salt and pepper.

– Spread the salad on any bread of your choice and top on any of your favourite sandwich toppings. You can also add spinach or lettuce for taste.

– The salad can also be used as a dip eaten with pita chips or any chips of your liking.

Include this healthy fruit in your diet in whichever form you like to achieve a perfect and healthy body.
