DON’T CHEAT ON YOUR HAIRSTYLIST!

Thinking about changing your hairstylist just for the heck of it? Think twice before you do it. We tell you why!

Other hair care tips take a back seat when it comes to changing your hairstylist and manager. Often your hair behaves like it has a mind of its own, right? On rare good days it can decide to be your crowning glory and yet on certain bad days it can simply choose to sulk and bring down a very well put together look.

Don’t make the mistake of treating your hair as a mere appendage to your personality. Rather, give it the respect of a permanent accessory of your individuality (yes, hair is quite a diva and her tantrums have to be dealt with care). And trusting someone randomly with your hair is certainly not something that you should risk. Trust us on that. Your hairstylist is someone who has to treat your hair like a princess. He (or she) needs to be someone who “understands” your hair – its texture, its grammar, your personality, your lifestyle, your style, your aspirations, the time you are ready to commit to your mane grooming and then give you a hair style that has the potential of giving your personality that edge or that signature that spells chic.

So, while the importance of a good hair stylist can hardly be stressed, finding the right one can be a quite a task! It’s a “relationship” – the bond that you share with your mane manager – and can be developed over trust and time. In short, your hairdresser should ideally be your man Friday for all reasons and seasons. Having said that, give us one good reason that once you have found this perfect tress tamer, why, just why would you want to seek out another?

This is not to say that you shouldn’t experiment. Do it, but be prepared for the consequences. Remember, as we said your hair is your permanent accessory any mess up with that will take time to correct. It is not like makeup that you can wipe away. If you get a bad hair cut it is something that you will have to live with for at least a month (especially if you have short hair). Again if your hair colour is messed up, you can colour it back but at the cost of damaging the health of your strands. So, be very, very careful is what we are advising.

As Jhelum Biswas Bose, the founder and director of Beauty Beats confides, “While many hairstylists are my friends, I must admit that Sumit Israni is my best friend (others please excuse me for this) for he understands my hair and my life style commitments the best. I have had my share of experiments but every time I have returned to Sumit. He has scolded me for some misadventures but has eventually relented.”

So, once in a while flirting around with new hair salons is not a no-no but play it safe. And if your “going astray” results in a mistake, run right back to your old, trusted stylist. You will be accepted and forgiven
