RIGHT CLEANSERS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE

Cleansing is the first step to healthy skin so you just can’t go wrong with it.

Since my teens I have been confused about the cleansers to use – courtesy my combination skin. The conflicting demands of my skin make me work twice as hard to maintain it. Hence my expertise and knowledge on all types of cleansers. And since I have suffered enough, I wish to make your life easier and therefore hope that the list of skin care products for women mentioned below will help you make a better and more informed choice:

1. Soaps: Though soap bars are harsh for delicate facial skin, some people just can’t do without them. If that’s the case with you, then you should go for soaps that are infused with moisturising ingredients such as glycerin, shea or cocoa butter, or aloe. Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender Triple Milled Soap, Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap, Bliss Lemon + Sage Soap and Forest Essentials Luxury Sugar Soap Neem Basil & Honey are some good moisturising soaps to try.

2. Non-foaming cleansers: This category includes gel-based and cream-based cleansers. Cream cleansers are a better option than soaps as they moisturise the skin along with cleansing. The ones enriched with vitamin E are even better. However, these are best for those with dry skin as they cleanse skin leaving it hydrated. Those with sensitive skin can also use them, but these are certainly not for oily skin. Those with sensitive skin should keep in mind that the cleansers should be fragrance-free and free of harsh chemicals or exfoliants. Cream cleansers that are infused with mild plant oils like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil, glycerin and hyaluronic acid are ideal for sensitive skin. The best way to use them is to massage a blob of the cleanser on the face with finger tips and leaving it on for a few minutes to let skin soak in some. Wipe out the remaining with tissue or a moist cotton ball. Try The Body Shop Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser, Olay Regenerist Cream Cleanser or Lancome Galatee Confort Comforting Milky Creme Cleanser.

3. Foaming cleansers: These kind of cleansers are for deep cleaning, breaking through the oil without causing any irritation. Those with combination skin can use such products as this won’t strip off moisture and break the oil on the T-zone. But while dealing with combination skin just remember to act differently for both skin types cleansing twice for oily areas and once for normal one. Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Cleansing Gelee/Refiner is a gel-based foaming cleanser that I use. You could also try Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, Olay’s Total Effects Foaming Cleanser, Pond’s Gold Radiance – Radiance Boosting Cleansing Mousse and L’Oreal Paris Ideal Clean All Skin Types Foaming Gel Cleanser.

4. Cleansing Oils: There has been quite a buzz about facial oils now. And people like me run away hearing the prospect of oil. But cleansing oils, when used correctly can make a remarkable difference to your skin, the oil binds the impurities and removes them easily leaving skin hydrated, without clogging the pores. They are helpful in cleaning makeup as well. If you are convinced give The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil, Superdrug Stores’ Vitamin E Skin Care Skin Oil, Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil, M.A.C Cleanse Off Oil or Josie Maran’s Argan Cleansing Oil a try. These are for all skin types.

5. Makeup Removers: The makeup products that enhance your beauty need to be removed also, choose a makeup remover that suits your skin type and leaves no residue. There are some makeup removers that leave the skin oily after use, these are not for oily skin. Makeup removers dedicated to oily/acne prone skin will generally have tea tree oil or ingredients that don’t clog the pores. While dry skin people need creamy makeup removers that don’t remove moisture from the skin leaving it hydrated. But we do have some makeup removers that suit all skin types like Clinique’s Take The Day Off Makeup Remover, L’Oreal Paris Dermo Expertise Gentle Lip and Makeup Remover, Lakme Absolute Bi-Phased Makeup Remover and Bobbi Brown Instant Long Wear Makeup Remover. And if you are looking for something natural, then try Forest Essentials Floral Makeup Remover.

6. Cleansing wipes: Easy to use anywhere and anytime. But before grabbing one for yourself just make sure that it’s for your skin type. The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleansing Wipes are perfect for a blemish prone skin while Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleansing Towelettes with Cotton Extract can be used by those with sensitive skin. M.A.C Wipes, Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes infused with Vitamin E and Epique Oil-free Cleansing & Makeup Remover Wipes are some that suit all skin types.
