AEROBICS: DANCE YOUR WAY TO A LEANER BODY

The most loved form of workout, which includes rhythm, dancing, warm up and is fun while you shed the extra kilos.

Aerobic workout also known as cardiovascular exercise strengthens the heart and lungs, helps in weight management and is also good for building stamina. Usually done to music, different types of aerobics are; step aerobics, floor aerobics, dance aerobics, aqua aerobics, cardio kickboxing, and cross training. They should be ideally done three to five days a week for optimum benefit.

Nisha Varma, Reebok university master trainer gives us a few points to ponder during this workout:

– A beginner should give it a start only after considering one’s age, medical history, and any injury. Everyone can do this workout except for highly obese, they can try aqua aerobics.

– Proper gear should be worn that is comfortable, well-fitted, light and made of breathable fiber.

– Aerobics shoes should be worn as the workout is mostly performed on a wooden floor. Cross training shoes or aerobic-specific shoes with forefoot flexibility, adequate cushioning and heel support are recommended.

– Hydrate well before, during and after the workout to maintain your energy levels and for hydration.

– Though any time of the day is good for aerobics, early mornings are the best. Always keep two to four hours gap between your meal and exercise depending upon the size of the meal.

– An aerobic session should be of 20-60 minutes duration. However, shorter bouts of 10-15 minutes can be done during the day adding to one hour.

– The ideal temperature for doing the workout is 23 degree Celsius, so whether you are doing it under fan or in air-conditioned room the temperature should be maintained at this.

Videos that have been long loved by all and teach you the right moves of aerobics are that of Jame Fonda’s.
